Yucca requires a sunny position all year, well drained compost and careful watering. A south-facing window would be ideal in winter with an east or west-facing window in summer. Provide light shade from direct summer sun and ventilate freely to encourage air flow to reduce excessive high temperatures.
They can easily get overwatered. Soggy stems signify too much water. In the right conditions, they live about five years as houseplants and up to 20 to 50 years if grown outdoors. A bright corner with relatively low humidity is the best indoor condition for a yucca plant.
The lower leaves will not harm the plant if you keep them on, and you may like the way this looks better than a trimmed yucca plant. Cosmetic pruning is mostly based on personal preference. You can still cut away damaged or dying leaves. They may naturally fall off, but this will help maintain the plant’s health.
